Presidenza italiana del g7
2024
BRIEF
The Delegation for the Italian Presidency of the G7 launched a call for proposals for the development of the branding strategy and the design of the logo along with the entire visual identity system of the G7, with the goal of best conveying the significance of this event and the central role of our country on the global stage. The challenge was to create a visual identity capable of expressing a Mediterranean essence of Italy in a fresh, contemporary, and non-stereotypical way, while communicating the most important values of this historical moment, such as harmony, peace, productivity, and cooperation.
SOLUTION
The central element of the logo for the Italian Presidency of the G7 is a centuries-old olive tree—one of the most widespread and iconic trees of the Italian and Mediterranean landscape, particularly in the Apulia region, where the Leaders’ Summit took place. The olive tree is depicted through its defining features: strong roots emerging from the ground, a gnarled trunk, lush branches, and olives that represent the seven nations coming together and working daily to tackle present and future global challenges. The blue graphic element evokes the Mediterranean Sea, the Mare Nostrum, where Italy holds a historically and culturally privileged position, and which connects the two major maritime spaces of the world: the Atlantic on one side and the Indo-Pacific on the other.
The clean design of the letters, the clear endings, and the uniform thickness ensure that the typeface interacts harmoniously with the design of the olive tree, which shares the same formal characteristics.
The visual identity system was applied across all documents and communication materials, both online and offline, during the G7 ministerial meetings, including the Puglia Summit.
